The grounds and gardens

The 28 acres of beautiful and peaceful private grounds gives varied habitat that makes Colmer a nature lover's paradise of meadows, woodland and water-meadows. The water gardens and lake attract hundreds of species of birds, butterflies and dragonflies to this holiday spot in South Devon.  Badgers have 'sett' up home within the estate and foxes, deer, bats, squirrels, hedgehogs and rabbits can sometimes be spotted.

Indoor pool

The indoor pool is open and heated all year round.   There are male, female and disabled changing rooms.

The Lake

You will need to provide your own rods etc and have the appropriate fishing licence available from local post offices.  Under 14s may fish without a licence.  New for 2006 is a wooden pontoon suitable for a wheelchair.  The lake has been recently dredged and landscaped.

Walled garden

walled garden and children's playground on Colmer EstateThe walled garden is huge.  It is a lovely safe area and the only place where ball games are permitted.  There are swings, slide, and a climbing frame, picnic benches and a boules area.   In the high season a football goal net is erected.  It is a safe spot for children to play in.

The games room

This is opposite the walled garden and houses a (pay for) pool table. It's a good facility for older children.

Woodland adventure playground

This is situated in a clearing in the woods behind the tennis court.  There is a climbing net, tyre swings and a balancing pole.

We had a lovely time and have already recommended the cottages to two other families. We had a great time and will certainly be back again. The indoor pool was great and we used it twice every day, the cottages were extremely well equipped and we really felt at home.  (Paul, 2012)

"We had a wonderful couple of days at Millwheel cottage and very much enjoyed the grounds too - including the playpark and pool/darts room.  The cottage is cosy and has everything you need for a restful stay.  A real bonus for us was the provision of toys in the cottage for our two young children.  The cottage made a great base for visiting family in Kingsbridge and spending time at the beach too.  I would definitely recommend Millwheel Cottage and the Colmer Estate to anyone and would happily return for a longer stay.  Thank you."  (Vicky, 2012)
